On Tuesday afternoon we were all grateful to receive a bit of rain. My rain gauge told me we had just under 3/4 of an inch. My neighbor said his gauge told him the same thing.
The rain came down fairly gradually. The rain barrels are full again, they actually overflowed. I love being around when it rains. I can hook up the hose and once the rain barrels start to fill I can open up the faucet on them and aim the extra water where I want it. During this rain I was able to give some extra water to one of the trees in the back yard and another in the front yard. I really like managing the water that way during a rain if I can. The water doesn’t come out the hose as fast as the barrel fills, but I figure it is better than no extra water getting to that tree at all.
I was able to go two days without watering. It is amazing what a little rain will do. The plants look so my happier then they do with my regular watering.
It was a nice afternoon. Rain is a good thing.
Sincerely, Emily
“Rains is a Good Thing” sung by Luke Bryan
(Verse 1)
My daddy spent his life lookin’ up at the sky
He’d cuss, kick the dust, sayin’ son it’s way too dry
It clouds up in the city, the weather man complains
But where I come from, rain is a good thing
(Chorus)
Rain makes corn, corn makes whiskey
Whiskey makes my baby feel a little frisky
Back roads are boggin’ up, my buddies pile up in my truck
We hunt our honeys down, we take ’em into town
Start washin’ all our worries down the drain
Rain is a good thing
(Verse 2)
Ain’t nothin’ like a kiss out back in the barn
Wringin’ out our soakin’ clothes, ridin’ out a thunderstorm
When tin roof gets to talkin’; that’s the best love we made
Yea where I come from, rain is a good thing
Repeat Chorus
(Bridge)
Farmer Johnson does a little dance
Creeks on the rise, roll up your pants
Country girls, they wanna cuddle
Kids out playin’ in a big mud puddle
Repeat Chorus
Rain is a good thing, rain is a good thing, rain is a good thing
Funny, I do find myself singing this song. I guess it is my wishful thinking. It not working.
I have been singing this song ever since our splash of rain last week. It isn’t working here either.
I am so happy you got some rain! Here, we got into the 80’s yesterday for the second time this year so far.
Hi Zonnah, The rain definitely helped. We just need more and more, more regularly. I am glad you got some warm weather. I think we will have to wait until October to see the weather get down to the 80’s.
At different times many parts of Texas had excessive rain taking them from drought to flood but overall its a good thing. Last year as late as September the region had recorded only a quarter of the normal rainfall for the year.
The saying “be careful what you wish for” is one of those that frequently comes to my mind when wishing for rain (ro any wishes really). I know we are in a time of drought now, but next week, next month, next year things could be completely different where we could have flooding.
Rainbarrels On my to do list this month…before the spring is really here! Do you do anything special re: upkeep?
I am so happy to have rain barrels. With our dry and hot weather I could afford to add many many many more ans till not have enough water to keep the veg gardens going. I hope to add several more this year. It can only help. I hope you get some rain barrels in place and take advantage of the spring rains.
