Help with the laundry

The only time I haven’t enjoyed doing laundry was in college. Sitting down in the laundry room waiting (and guarding) my clothes just wasn’t fun. Once I left the dorms I would have to go to the laundry mat and I don’t remember altogether enjoying that either. The experience didn’t traumatize me for life, but I used to worry about what my clothes would look like when they came out of the machines, not knowing what the person before me did (or didn’t’ do)

For many years, doing laundry hasn’t bothered me. In fact, I kind of enjoy it. I get a feeling of accomplishment and I love the process of hanging the clothes out on the line to dry.

New helper - fresh and clean

I now have a once-loved (new-to-me) helper to hang out when I do laundry.

New Helper - drying out - first outing

For those of you who know me, you know I am not an impulse buyer. I will spend time talking myself out of buying something, before I ever buy something I need (by the way canning jars don’t count!) I hardly ever buy anything that I just want.

New Helper - all dry

For some reason, this little guy had to come home with me. I found him at a thrift store and it must have been his smile!

I do not have a name for my New Helper yet. One will come to me. Until then, he (I think it is a “he”) is patiently waiting, always has a smile on his face and every time I look at him he makes me smile. I even found myself talking (yes, out loud) to him when I was hanging out laundry one day, then Tiger Tail came out to the clothesline and I thought it might be better if I talked to her.

New Helper waiting for next load

He did remind me of something from Dr.. Seuss, and it turns out he is… In case you didn’t know (because I didn’t know) it is a character from Dr. Seuss called Wocket from the book “There’s a Wocket in my Pocket”

Tiger Tail in the parsley

Wocket (here I was thinking I would name him Poppy!) will put a little smile on my face when I do the laundry. We will enjoy the sunshine and the birds chirping when we are out there and if Tiger Tail still wants to come out and hang out with us (because I carry her out there) then that is fine too.

Sincerely, Emily

Wocket – a good name šŸ™‚ And even better to have a laundry assistant!

    • I am glad I found out who he really is. You are right, Wocket fits him! He is outside guarding the laundry on the line today. It is sort of misty out there. I sure wish he would give me a call if it starts to rally rain and I don’t notice!

  2. I think I need a wacky laundry assistant. šŸ™‚

Good for you, he is so cute!

Is Wocket in the new “LORAX” movie? I didn’t read those books when you were growing up, Emily….We missed out!!

  5. I got to hang my laundry out for the first time this year yesterday, it made me so happy. There is something about hanging laundry outside that makes it fun for me. If I have to use my dryer, I don’t like it.

    • Is Wingnut a helper outside when you hang the laundry? I do enjoy hanging the laundry. there is something about it. We have had some nice rains throughout the winter, so I really had to plan laundry-day. I have a comforter in the washer right now and there are isolated showers in the forecast. I will still take the rain!
